The street art was created for the 2016 Olympic games, where it illustrates various faces of people who represent the native peoples of five continents. This is symbolised by the five Olympic rings, conveying peace and intercultural diversity which connects different individuals through art.
For me, Mural das Etnias is an official tourist attraction site due to its significance of the Olympic games which is widely acknowledged by millions of people in the world. Through numerous media coverages surrounding the connection between the Olympics and the art's representation of unity, it attracted thousands of tourists to visit the unique Brazilian landmark. This further reinforced Rio de Janeiro's image of vibrancy and acceptance. Ultimately, this displays how the power of combining art and a significant event can bring people from different cultures together and create a welcoming environment for everyone.
Further, when discovering this artwork, I noticed that due to its wide recognition, there are numerous transportations available to visit the site. This made me realise how important transportation plays a role in inviting tourists to visit an attraction because without accessibility, it would be nearly impossible to connect and experience the beauty of art in real life.
Mural des Etnias is one of Brazil’s well-known street arts and is a popular tourist destination for numerous people from different cultures. The artwork’s wide recognition through media, having significant correlation with the Olympics and having convenient accessibility expresses the nature of it being an official tourist site of Brazil.
